5 Rosh Hashanah Dinner Menus to Try This Year


There’s just so much to love about the quiet, nostalgia-inducing time of year that surrounds Rosh Hashanah—at least here on the East Coast. Crisp, still-sunny skies and cozy sweaters, for starters. And those deep autumn colors—purples and oranges and browns. Warm desserts, warm drinks, warm hearts. Pulling on the season’s first pair of tights, and the season’s first real coat, and stepping outside to see the season’s first few fallen leaves…

GAH. The best. It’s an ending and a beginning all at once. And it’s pure magic.

This year, the New Year falls on September 29…which means there’s bound to be even more autumn goodness to stare at and crunch your feet on and revel in. It’s why I always have and always will associate this holiday with so much more than just apples and honey.

Today, I wanted to share a few complete Rosh Hashanah menus in the hopes that you’ll start getting excited yourself. Since my family is half Ashkenazi and half Sephardic, I’ve included menus from both of our traditions, plus a few other creative, just-for-fun menus.

As always, the ideas I’m presenting here are just jumping-off points to get your creative juices flowing in the kitchen and to get you thinking about the endless possibilities for this and all Jewish holidays.
